Parents/Scouts - Tired of having to manually enter upcoming troop meetings and events into your on-line calendars?
The makers of SOAR (the application that we use for our website) now have a new feature which we can use.
If you have any of the "smart" phones (Androids, iPhone, iPad, Windows phone), you can now synchronize your device with our troop website...more accurately, you can import our calendar entries into a number of electronic calendars which you may be using (Outlook, iCalendar, Google Calendar, etc.).
1. After signing-on to the website, go to the top left of the screen...
2. Under the User area, following your UserID you should see "Calendar Sync"
3. Click on Calendar Sync and follow the directions!
In an effort to continue to protect the youth that we serve in the Scouting program, effective June 1st it will be required that all registered leaders take Youth Protection Training. Please see the attached flyer announcing this as well as the copy from the National office memo below. If you have any questions on this please contact your Unit Commissioner or you may email me at kziegenf@bsamail.org. Please pass this information on to all of your Scouting friends and let’s make sure to get the word out on this as quickly as possible.
Also please remember that the safety of our youth needs to continue to be the most important aspect of the Scouting program. Without it there will be no program, so please join me in sharing the word of what we as leaders are pledging to do for our youth. If you have not taken the training for a while I would like to encourage you to take some time now and go to www.myscouting.org and take a refresher course on this important training.
The following is the memo from the National office.
Youth safety is the No. 1 concern of the BSA.
To increase awareness of this societal problem and to create even greater barriers to abuse than already exist today in Scouting, the Boy Scouts of America is implementing several important changes to further enhance its Youth Protection policies:
Effective June 1, 2010:
- Youth Protection Training is required for all registered volunteers.
- New leaders are required to take Youth Protection Training before they submit their application for registration. The certificate of completion for this training must be submitted at the time application is made and before volunteer service with youth begins.
- Youth Protection Training must be taken every two years. If a volunteer's Youth Protection Training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be reregistered.
Please see attached for steps to ensure these policies are fully implemented.
For the people that are registering as a new leader, they can go online and sign in as a non-member and complete the training. Once they have submitted their application with a copy of the certificate of completion they can log back on and update their records with their Member ID number.
As always thank you for all that you do for our Youth and Our Community.
