From Scoutmaster Maney's Backpack (9/28/14)

Posted on Sep 29 2014 - 2:33am

Good morning ALL,

I hope some of our Scouts and their families were able to go to the Giant Center in Hershey Friday or Saturday to see the U.S. Army's Spirit of America show.  Thank you ASM Mr. Taylor for letting me know about it and spread the word to our Troop last Thursday.  It was a GREAT show.

This week have a Court of Honor.  It will start at 7 PM and the scouts do not need to bring their handbooks.

Scouts should wear their Class A Uniform (this would include Class a shirt, neckerchief or Bolo Tie and official BSA Scout Pants or Dark Green cargo pants or any other Dark Green pants (other colors or pants with prints are not part of our uniform). Essemtially it's khaki BSA uniform shirts over dark green pants. Shoes can range from hiking boots to leather shoes to "tame" colored sneakers that don't detract from the uniform. If a belt is needed (some of the switchback pants don't need a belt as one is built-in), a Dark Green or Dark Brown webbed belt or a similar brown/bkack leather belt.)

Each Scout should be receiving an award and is expected to be there to receive it.  As well, someone from the scout's family should be in attendance to see them receive the recognition that they deserve.  I hope we have a full house.

Please review the updated scout account balances posted to the website.  Those owing money should come early to settle their account (see Mrs. Davis or Mr. Fitz PRIOR to the start of the meeting).  If not settled, we cannot advance you to the next rank or hand out awards at this COH.

Other things going on:

1)  Pancake Breakfast this coming Weekend (Saturday 10/4 & Sunday 10/5),  we need help and each Scout is expected to help in at least 1 shift.  Sign up on the Troop Web Site.

2)  St. Anthony's Backpacking trip is coming up real soon.  make sure you sign up for this one.  Last year everyone had a FANTASTIC time and this year should not be any different.

3)  Joshua Dicks' Eagle Court of Honor is on Sunday 10/12/14.  Everyone is invited to come and see Joshua receive the coveted Eagle Scout Award.  I could use some help with the ceremony.  If you are able to help, please sign up on the Troop's Website or let me know, I need to finalize the program.

4)  There is a Popcorn Show & Sell to sign up for too.

5)  Graphic Arts Merit Badge is being offered on 10/20/14.  We only have 12 slots and 7 Scouts have signed up so far.  It is a FUN merit Badge to earn. Ask the Scouts that earned it last year.  Sign up on the Troop's Web Site.

6)  New this year is Sky Zone Indoor Trampoline Park trip in December.  Sign up on the Troop's Web Site.

ANNUAL DUES:

If you haven't done so, be sure to turn-in your September Coupon and money for 1/2 of the total payment to Mrs. Davis (you may also have it taken from your Scout Acct).  This applies to ALL scouts regardless of whether you will turn 18 this year or are having your Eagle Ceremony within this program year (there are associated costs to the troop for each Eagle Ceremony).

Have a GREAT WEEK!!!  I will see you Thursday evening!!!

Mr. Maney

CONGRATULATIONS TROOP 142!!!

Posted on Aug 5 2014 - 2:14am

Congratulations Troop 142 for attaining the Troop Award of Excellence following your week of summer camp at Bashore Scout Reservation.

To receive this award, all 7 patrols from the troop had to earn the Baden Powell Patrol Award (multiple tasks that each patrol had to complete) - try keeping 46 boys focused for a week!

A special "WELL DONE" to Senior Patrol Leader Colin Heckman, his assistants and the 7 Patrol Leaders for all their hard work to achieve the awards!

This continues our summer camp tradition of attaining these awards dating back to the 1990's!

Also, many thanks to Scoutmaster Maney and his assistants for giving their time this past week on behalf of the scouts!

Great job scouts and leaders!
